Description
NAD⁺ (β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a ubiquitous pyridine dinucleotide cofactor central to cellular redox biochemistry, functioning as the electron acceptor in catabolic dehydrogenase reactions and as the substrate for sirtuin (SIRT1-7), PARP, and CD38 enzyme classes. In vitro and rodent-model research literature has characterized its interaction with the sirtuin deacetylase enzyme family and downstream regulation of mitochondrial-biogenesis and DNA-damage-response signaling pathways (Imai et al., Nature, 2000). Murine tissue and cell-culture investigations have examined its association with cellular NAD⁺/NADH ratio dynamics and PARP-mediated chromatin-modification pathway flux (Cantó et al., Cell Metab., 2015). Findings in in vitro / animal studies do not necessarily translate to other systems.
