Description
Melanotan 2 (MT-II) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), engineered through Nle⁴, D-Phe⁷ substitution and lactam-bridge cyclization between Asp⁵ and Lys¹⁰ to confer pan-melanocortin receptor agonism and proteolytic stability. In vitro and rodent-model research literature has characterized its interaction with the melanocortin receptors MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R and downstream cAMP/PKA signaling pathway activation (Hadley & Dorr, Peptides, 2006). Rodent-model investigations have examined its association with melanocyte tyrosinase-pathway gene-expression cascades and central melanocortin-axis signaling pathway dynamics (Sawyer et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 1980). Findings in in vitro / animal studies do not necessarily translate to other systems.
