5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium (5-Amino-1MQ) is a small-molecule selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), the enzyme that catalyzes methyl-group transfer from S-adenosylmethionine to nicotinamide. In vitro and murine-model research literature has characterized its interaction with the NNMT active site and downstream effects on the cellular SAM/SAH ratio and NAD⁺ salvage pathway flux (Neelakantan et al., Biochem. Pharmacol., 2018). Murine adipocyte and tissue-model investigations have examined its association with sirtuin-pathway signaling and adipose lipolytic pathway modulation (Kannt et al., Sci. Rep., 2018). Findings in in vitro / animal studies do not necessarily translate to other systems.
