Description
IGF-DES is a truncated variant of human IGF-1 lacking the first three N-terminal residues (Gly-Pro-Glu), originally identified as a naturally occurring cleavage product in bovine colostrum and brain tissue. In vitro and rodent-model research literature has characterized its interaction with the IGF-1 receptor and its markedly reduced affinity for IGFBPs relative to native IGF-1 (Sara et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 1986). Rat-model investigations have examined its association with localized IGF-1R-mediated signaling pathways in muscle and neural tissue (Yamamoto & Murphy, J. Endocrinol., 1995). Findings in in vitro / animal studies do not necessarily translate to other systems.
Des(1-3) IGF-1 is a truncated form of insulin-like growth factor-1 lacking the first three N-terminal amino acids.
